It’s been a while since I’ve thought about passion, and my own passions. I’m writing because I find passion to be elusive. I’m swimming in a sea of choices regarding what I am enthusiastic about at this point in life.

A cursory list of my passions include traveling and discovering new places; thinking about deeper questions related to the human condition and discussing them; and encouraging people to move toward their dreams and live life unconventionally.

I’m passionate about our differences as people, particularly since humans spend a lot of time attempting to be the same. I’m passionate about learning, reading, and attempting to capture my thoughts and emotions through the medium of writing.

I’m passionate about breakfast; I love bacon, eggs, and toast on the weekend. I enjoy reading the Sunday New York Times when there are thought provoking articles, and less wasted space. Unfortunately, it cost $6.00 to find out how much wasted space there is each week; that’s a gallon and a half of gas, but I don’t drive anywhere to buy it.

I’m passionate about creativity, being supported, and supporting others who seek an avant-garde approach to their own lives. I love pragmatic innovations that make life easier and more fluid. I’m passionate about space, aesthetics, and comfort. I’m passionate about being free; embracing freewill and choice and living outside of the constraints that keep so many people from acting.

I’m passionate about acting too. The stage is a beautiful place where everyone has to know their role in order to execute flawlessly. I’m passionate about the arts and art history, culture, and the self-reflective potential of each.

I’m passionate about spending time in my home; feeling safe and secure, and reading books that I enjoy. I’m passionate about spending time with my dog, Tango; like most dogs he’s simply full of love and enthusiastic about nearly everything. He seems to have no limits when it comes to his passions.

How does one channel such an emotive set of fireworks inside of the soul toward sustained action? In other words, given that passion is so intensely bound to individual emotions, is it possible to find a balance between passion and action? How can one act consistently and in alignment with the fuel behind their passions when it seems to burn so quickly and effortlessly?

Action takes us into the realm of ‘doing’; passion remains within the realm of ‘being,’ at least until our emotions or feelings are acted upon. Taking action in our own lives seems to be the major conundrum; bound up in our own emotions and passions for the life we want to live often overwhelms our choice to simply take action. How do we begin to take action?

Choice, choice is the means by which we move from passion to action. Passions rise and fall with the whim of time, but to embrace a passion requires a choice. No matter how many passions one may have, choosing one, and then acting on it is critical toward living a passionate life. Think about your passions, choose one, and do it.
